Your Future Needs More Than a Dream. It Needs a P.L.A.N.
From Where You Are to Where You Want to Be.
Prepare Today. Navigate Tomorrow.
⸻
THE BIG IDEA
Every student is eventually asked the same question:
“What are you going to do after high school or college?”
Too many young people have been encouraged to dream but have never been taught how to turn those dreams into an actionable plan.
The P.L.A.N. Student Success Workshop is an interactive one-day experience created by speaker and youth development leader Dejon Jernagin to help students identify where they want to go, understand what it will take to get there, and create specific steps for their future.
P.L.A.N. stands for:
P — PREPARE
Who am I becoming, and what must I do now to get ready for my future?
Students identify their strengths, interests, habits, academic standing, personal responsibilities, and areas that need improvement.
L — LAYOUT
Where am I trying to go?
Students begin laying out a realistic vision for life after high school or junior college, including college, university transfer, vocational education, military service, entrepreneurship, employment, athletics, and other career pathways.
A — ARRANGE
What needs to be put in place to make my plan happen?
Students organize the practical pieces of their future: academics, finances, applications, deadlines, relationships, transportation, housing, scholarships, career preparation, support systems, and personal responsibilities.
N — NAVIGATE
How will I handle obstacles, changes, setbacks, and opportunities along the way?
Students develop the mindset and skills necessary to adjust their plans without abandoning their purpose.
⸻
THE PROBLEM P.L.A.N. ADDRESSES
Schools work extremely hard to prepare students academically.
But many students still reach graduation or the end of junior college without being able to clearly answer:
* What am I doing next?
* Why am I choosing this path?
* What qualifications do I need?
* What deadlines am I facing?
* How will I pay for it?
* Who should be helping me?
* What happens if Plan A does not work?
* What habits do I need to change now?
* What should I accomplish during the next 30, 60, 90, and 180 days?
P.L.A.N. helps turn uncertainty into direction.
The objective is not to tell every student that they must attend a four-year university.
The objective is to help every student leave with a thoughtful, realistic and actionable next-step plan.
⸻
PROGRAM PURPOSE
The P.L.A.N. Workshop helps students connect:
Purpose + Preparation + Education + Career + Personal Responsibility + Action
Students are challenged to move beyond:
“I want to…”
and begin saying:
“Here is what I am going to do next.”
